Since being elected to the Board of Trustees in 2022, Tammy Nakamura has transformed GCISD into a district that is highly ranked in not only DFW but the entire state. Her leadership has made GCISD the district where every teacher wants to work and every parent wants to send their child to school. 

Tammy’s service to GCISD didn’t start with the Board, however. She and her husband of over 40 years, Yuki Nakamura (M.D.), are parents of proud GCISD graduates, during which time Tammy served in classrooms, various district-related organizations, as PTA President at Glenhope Elementary, Cross Timbers Middle School and Grapevine High School, and as the founder of the booster club for GCISD Special Athletics.

As a Colleyville City Councilwoman for six years, Tammy succeeded in lowering taxes, fixing roads and making the community a better place to live. When the opportunity came along to join with other passionate school board members advocating for positive change in the school district that has given so much to her family, she knew this was her calling.
